OLX is today one of India’s top online marketplaces for people selling used goods. But in early 2015 we noticed a worrying trend. A large number of OLX users were posting products without a proper useful description. This was in turn affecting their sale-time, leading to poor reviews and unsatisfied customers.
Our solution was a video creation engine that gave each user a chance to create their own unique video ad for every product they had to sell.
To build the database that would feed this video creation engine, we scripted and shot over ten hours’ worth of footage. We created colorful characters who would sell different products, and wrote in jokes and gags to compliment every variable input by the user. All the writing was done in a manner that it could be rearranged by the algorithm to be relevant to the user’s product specifications, making each video unique and memorable.
